Specialized treatments in NeuroMuscular Therapy can address symptoms of Carpal Tunnel, Sciatica, Thoracic Outlet Syndrome, Rotator Cuff, Shoulder & Arm pain, Whiplash, etc.  NeuroMuscular Therapy is a specific and scientific approach to the elimination of pain caused by muscular injury, regardless of when the injury occurred.  NMT enhances the function of joints, muscles, movement and releases endorphins; the body’s own natural pain killers.

What causes my pain?
Pain is a response to injury to a tissue of the body.  An impulse is transmitted from the injured tissue through nerves to the spinal cord, and these impulses are recorded and interpreted by the brain as pain.

Injury to or overuse of any soft tissue (muscle, tendon, ligament) may not only produce pain, but can cause limitation or loss of movement.

If left untreated, the injured area will establish a cycle of pain and spasm.  This cycle may continue in intensity, and affect surrounding muscles, which may then become secondary areas of pain.

There are several physiological factors which may create or intensify pain in the body:

Ischemia:  lack of blood, oxygen, or nutrients to a muscle, allowing a build-up of waste products, and creating localized tissue deprivation.

Trigger Points:  areas of highly charged neurological activity that can refer pain or other sensations (ie, tingling, burning, numbness, itching) to other areas of the body.

Nerve Compression/Entrapment:  Pressure on nerves running through the soft tissues that lie between muscles, and between muscles and bones.

Postural Distortion:  A shifting of the body away from corect anatomical alignment, usually to accomodate muscular spasm or contraction.

These factors, along with nutritional and mental health factors, can cause unbalance between the musculoskeletal system and the nervous system.
PAIN CYCLE: Injury » Ligamentous Instability »  Pain »  Muscle Spasm  » Dysfunctional Biomechanics
